PEACEful Security Guard

© 2ß15, Carl Weese

Carl schreibt zu seinem Projektbeitrag:

"This young woman was standing security duty at a wonderful exhibit of paintings by Jervis McEntee, on display at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art on the campus of the State University of New York at New Paltz. He is one of the Hudson River School painters who is, from what we saw at this exhibit, unjustly less well known than some of his mentors and contemporaries. I approached her to ask if I could photograph her with the peace sign earring. When she looked a little skeptical I explained that my friend in Germany publishes pictures of peace signs by his photographer friends on a blog that’s seen around the world. She happily agreed. She was standing in front of a frosted window and something about the very strange lighting is exactly why I spotted the peace earring from all the way across the large gallery room. I tried to retain that sense, working on the RAW file. Bettina and I were celebrating our own 9/11 anniversary, 44 years married, and I was happy to find a Peace Project picture to make on this particular day."

PEACE shirt

© 2013 Markus Spring

Markus schreibt zu seinem Projektbeitrag:
" Not sure if the T-shirt designer knew that this is the peace sign and no  general sign for love. But then, in those times - now decades ago - love and  peace was a popular slogan, so the mixture is most probably o.k.
Peace signs - being it on clothes or sticker or as graffiti tags - are quite  rare in those southern parts of Germany that I know. The A for Anarchism you  see in many places, in spite of the political irrelevance of all radical  leftist movements in Germany."

PEACE at the bagel shop & sketchbook

© Carl Weese

Carl schreibt zu seinem Projektbeitrag:
"Perhaps it's a bit commercial for the The Big Apple Bagel Shop in the resort town of Bay View, WI, to utilize the peace symbol, but then, the more commercial interests paid any attention to the idea at all, the better off we'd all be."

PEACE through music

Peace Through Music, Terryville, Connecticut • © Carl Weese

Heute ein Beitrag von Carl Weese zum PEACE-Projekt.
Carl schreibt:
"It's interesting that this is a slightly commercialized instance, a "peace through music" decal in the display window of a music shop. Of course, what's interesting, in these economic times, is that I should have said 'former music shop.' The store is now vacant except for the decals, some worn carpet, and a few cleaning tools lying about inside. Having passed by and even photographed the windows in the past, the jam-packed store looked as though it had been there forever. But no more."

PEACE Garden

Garden with Peace Sign, Housatonic, Massachusetts, 7/26/09 • © Carl Weese

Carl schreibt zu seinem Projektbeitrag:
"I'd parked my truck and gotten out to take a look around this small town. A 25 year old Isuzu Trooper II painted an outrageous acid green color, with some custom sheet metal work, rattled up to the curb. I gave it a look because I owned a Trooper II from 1985 to 1997. It was coming apart at the seams when I dumped it for my current truck, so I was surprised to see a stablemate still on the road. The man who got out of it, who to me looked just about the same age as the little truck, detoured on his way across the sidewalk to the town's tiny grocery store and headed my way. Nodding at my camera he asked if I was looking for something. I said 'nothing in particular, anything that's interesting.' He told me there was a derelict factory building just up the road that people are trying to restore for businesses and lofts, and that there was a wonderful garden just a couple doors up the street. The garden is...I'm not sure 'wonderful' is the word I'd use, though certainly interesting...but when I saw the peace sign in a wreath on the front porch I immediately knew I needed to send it in for Martin's Public Eye Peace Project."

PEACE shirt and Christmas Tree

Markus schreibt zu seinem Projektbeitrag:
"If in the U.S. Peace is "The Fresh Way", here in Germany it has to help sell overpriced BOSS-labeled pullovers. On one hand this can be seen as bad as it can get, on the other hand for me it is a kind of black humor: a trophy woman showing off with a peace sign..."

Fake PEACE?

PEACE on the Octoberfest

© Markus Spring

Markus schreibt zu seinem Projektbeitrag:
"In spite of the small number of peace signs I was able to spot in Munich, this is a really peaceful city if read take the official crime rate. And this year, I have even found a peace sign on the Octoberfest itself, used to advertise for time-travel "back into the 70ies" attraction. I doubt however that it will help against the rising number of beer hall brawls, where drunkards use steins as weapons against each other."

Give PEACE a Chance!

Ricoh GRD II

Oh let's stick to it … bin gespannt!

PEACE-'n-Lines

Ricoh GRD II

… Grandmas sit in chairs and reminisce

Boys keep chasing girls to get a kiss
The cars keep going faster all the time
Bums still cry "hey buddy, have you got a dime"

Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da …

PEACE in the pole

© Tyler Monson

Tyler schreibt zu seinem Projektbeitrag:
"Credit to Gerald Holtom, who designed the nuclear disarmament symbol in 1958, which later was adopted as the peace symbol.
Still, I wonder about the person who drew this symbol, cut it out by hand, and stapled it to the pole; is it for peace, or for nuclear disarmament? Or does that person even know? Always questions. Never answers.
Keep on walking."

PEACE 57

Canon 20D, EF 28-105 II USM, 800 ISO

"By the way" noch ein Kommentar zur 20D, diesem digitalen "Kamera-Oldie".

Happy New Year!

Bonne Nouvelle Anneé!

Peace Along the Highway

State Route 52, Ellenville, New York • © Carl Weese

Carl schreibt zu seinem Projektbeitrag:
"Outdoor advertising—roadside billboards—is a relatively inexpensive way to reach fairly large numbers of eyeballs and so is quite popular here with advocacy groups. Mostly groups promoting an extremist fundamentalist-religious agenda. So I was surprised to see a series of billboards along a highway in eastern upstate New York advocating instead for world peace. So later I checked www.worldpeace.org and found that it's The World Peace Prayer Society, founded in Japan, with a number of international offices. A brief look at the site indicates that, far from fundamentalist, the Society appears to be mystical in orientation. But they've discovered the bargain of outdoor advertising."

- Happy New Year!

Naugatuck, CT • © Carl Weese

Carl writes for his contribution to the project:
"Hot off the memory card. Had to get out for a walkabout even though the light was awful with dead clear sky and crazy reflective light from the snow on the ground. The truck is facing more or less due north, I'm shooting from the east side of the street, and there's so much bounce light coming back to the truck that the triangle of northwest blue sky at the upper right, and the side of the truck, not to mention the drive-train and pavement under it, are all within range of the sensor, with only moderate use of ACR controls.
The graffiti is on a heavy, solid chassis (not semi-trailer) refrigerated delivery truck. It was delivering supplies to a storefront take-out Chinese food restaurant on the central street of the town. If anyone has ideas how the other symbols here relate to the peace sign, I'd love to hear about it. As a point of speculative reference, it is highly probable that the goods are distributed from a warehouse in Brooklyn, NY, about 90 miles to the south and west, and it would not be surprising if the truck spends the night parked on the streets rather than protected in a lot."

Carl's photo is still a great picture for New Years Eve
And so I wish all contributors and readers of TPE

PEACE im Karoviertel

© 2016, Markus Spring
