New York, NY • © Carl Weese

"Spotted in a discount clothing store near Columbus Circle."

  1. What fascinates me most in this picture, is that it could have been taken anywhere. These shops really do look all the same, everywhere, and you did not include the slightest hint of specific local context.

  2. Yes, the store and merchandise are very generic. More and more, shopping districts of major cities have exactly the same large chain stores as suburban shopping malls. Certainly that's happening in New York. Not that the city has become fully homogenized. On my two recent trips into town I found plenty of quirky and "only in New York" stuff that I'm currently posting on my blogs. But the tend toward anonymous blandness is real.
